# Bin

## What is the Bin?

Deleted surveys aren't removed permanently right away in QUESTIONSTAR — they're first moved to the Bin. From there they can be restored or permanently deleted as needed. The Bin is user-specific — each user sees only their own deleted surveys.

## Move a survey to the Bin

To move a survey to the Bin, proceed as follows:

![Move a survey to the Bin](/api/media/file/1.-Umfrage-in-Papierkorb-verschieben.png)

1. In the dashboard, click the three-dot menu to the right of the survey you want in order to select it.
2. In the right-hand panel under “Survey Tools”, choose the “**Move to Bin**” option.

A dialog box opens with a note that moving the survey stops data collection and makes reports and analyses unavailable.
3. Tick the box “**Stop data collection and move to the Bin**” to confirm the action.
4. Click “**Move to Bin**” to move the survey to the Bin. Alternatively, you can end the process with “**Cancel**”.

After moving, the survey is removed from the dashboard and appears in the “Bin” area. Data collection is stopped, and reports and analyses are no longer accessible.

You can restore the survey from the Bin at any time to keep editing it or reuse it.

## Search for a survey in the Bin

The “Bin” view lists all surveys you've ever deleted from the dashboard, i.e. moved to the Bin.

To find a particular survey, type part of its title into the **search field (1)** above the list. The list is then filtered automatically and shows only surveys whose titles contain the text you entered.

Once you've found the survey you're looking for in the list, click the three-dot icon to the right of the entry **(2)** to select it. Various actions are then available to you in the right-hand “Survey Tools” area, such as restoring or permanently deleting the survey.

If you'd like to make sure it's the right survey, click the “**Preview Survey**” button in the right-hand panel **(3)**.

## Restore a survey from the Bin

If you'd like to retrieve a survey from the Bin, click the **three-dot icon** of the relevant survey and, in the right-hand panel under “Actions”, choose the “**Restore Survey**” option.

The survey is then shown again in the dashboard — by default in the “Uncategorized” folder. It's restored exactly in the state it was in when it was deleted — including any data already collected and reports already created. There are no restrictions on restoring.

## Permanently delete a survey

You can also remove surveys in the Bin permanently. **To do so, select the survey you want** and click “**Delete Survey**” in the right-hand panel. The action has to be confirmed. The survey is then permanently deleted and cannot be restored.

## Important notes

- Deleted surveys stay in the Bin indefinitely until they're manually deleted for good.
- Management is done one at a time — bulk actions such as deleting or restoring several surveys at once aren't currently possible.
- Before a survey is moved to the Bin, a confirmation prompt appears to prevent accidental deletion.
