# File Upload question type

## About the File Upload question type

With the **File Upload** question type, respondents can upload files directly in the questionnaire. This works for a wide range of scenarios — for example, uploading documents, photos or scanned forms. On mobile devices, a direct camera upload is also available. This makes it easy to capture things like meter-reading photos, damage documentation or handwritten, signed consent forms.

## File upload field settings

In the settings panel you can define numerous parameters for the upload question:

1. **Minimum Files**
Sets how many files respondents must upload at minimum. This setting makes sense, for example, when the upload is mandatory — such as in application forms where a CV is strictly required.
2. **Maximum Files**
Limit the maximum number of files that can be uploaded. If the field is left empty, any number of files can be uploaded.
3. **Maximum File Size**
Choose from preset sizes (e.g. 5, 20 or 100 MB). Files larger than this are rejected.
4. **Allowed Extensions**
Here you can restrict the upload to specific formats (e.g. `.jpg, .png`). If the field is left empty, all file types are allowed. If an unpermitted format is uploaded, it is automatically rejected.
5. **Scale large images (recommended)**
This feature is enabled by default. It ensures that high-resolution images are automatically reduced in size — ideal for saving storage space and improving export performance. It's especially recommended for mobile photo uploads.

## Example of an upload question

To help you picture the question type, here's a typical file upload question. Respondents can drag and drop files into the highlighted area or select them with a click. This kind of data collection is especially user-friendly and flexible to use.
