Create a new question
In QUESTIONSTAR, you can add new questions to your questionnaire with just a few clicks — right in the workspace of the "Edit Survey" view. A wide range of question types and specialized variants is available to you, so you can capture very different survey scenarios in the best possible way.
Add a new question
There are several ways to insert a new question into your questionnaire:

- Add at the end of the page
Scroll to the bottom of the page and click "+ New Question". - Add within a page
If you'd like to insert a new question between two existing ones, click the plus sign in the question's top menu. The new question is inserted directly above the selected question. - Copy questions from other surveys
Alternatively, you can also reuse existing questions from other surveys. To do so, click "Copy from another survey" at the bottom of the current page. This is especially useful when you'd like to reuse questions or scales you've already tested.
Choose a question type
After clicking "New Question", a dialog window appears where you select the desired question type. The available question types cover a broad range of typical survey scenarios.
QUESTIONSTAR offers a total of 36 question types, which are first grouped into 15 base question types. For a complete overview, see the article "Available question types".
Choose a base question type:
As the first step, choose the base question type that fits — then you can, if needed, set the desired subtype (e.g. horizontal or vertical display, side-by-side matrix, star ratings, etc.).

Change the question type later or adjust the subtype
In the next step, you can adjust the subtype of the chosen base question type in the properties panel on the right if needed — or even change the question type itself afterwards.
Here's how:

- Select the desired question in the workspace, or click the gear icon at the top right of the question to open the settings panel.
- There, switch to the "Question Type" tab.
- Choose the desired question type or subtype from the list.
The available options depend on the base question type you originally chose — for example, with "Single Choice" you can choose between vertical, horizontal, or tabular display.
Note:
When you change the question type, answer options or matrix items you've already entered are preserved — provided the new question type supports such elements. Your work so far is not lost.
