Info Block question type

About the Info Block

The Info Block question type isn't used to collect answers, but to provide information within the questionnaire. It's especially well suited for introductions, transitions or notes — e.g. at the start of the survey, before a new topic block, or to explain certain terms.

The Info Block can be formatted freely and also supports extended content such as:

  • Bold, italic and colored text formatting
  • Images, e.g. logos, illustrations or explanatory graphics
  • Tables, for instance to present schedules or comparative information
  • Videos and audio embeds via embed code
  • Links, e.g. to privacy information or external sources
  • Emojis, to lighten the tone

You design the Info Block directly in the survey editor just like a normal question — the difference being that it's a pure text input with no answer options.

Typical use cases:

  • Welcome text with notes on how to proceed
  • Intermediate headings or section dividers
  • Explanations of the questions that follow
  • Thank-you note at the end of the survey
  • Reporting the results of a test or exam

Settings of the Info Block question type

Info Block settings

The Info Block has only common settings that apply to all question types. For a detailed overview, see the article:

👉 Common question settings

Compared with other question types, the feature set is deliberately kept lean — after all, the Info Block serves purely to present content and contains no logic-based or interactive elements such as answer options or validations.

The display of the Info Block can, however, certainly be controlled by answers to other questions or by scores reached.

Unlike classic question types, the Info Block has no answer fields and no validation — its purpose lies exclusively in the presentation of information, not in collecting data. Accordingly, its feature set is deliberately reduced.

Even so, you can control the Info Block dynamically and show or hide it selectively — depending on the context or on answers to previous questions. The following options are available to you for this:

  • Add Display Logic
With display logic you can define whether an Info Block is shown — e.g. only if a particular answer was given:
    👉 Display logic
  • Use test and scoring conditions
You can also respond to scores reached, for instance in personality tests or feedback scales, to display individually fitting content:
    👉 Tests and Scorings
  • Reuse answers from previous questions (piping)
You can insert text dynamically — e.g. to show the respondent's name or previous answers in the Info Block:
    👉 Reusing answers (piping)
  • Set up skip logic based on whether the Info Block is shown
Whether or not an Info Block was shown can in turn be used as a condition in skip logic — letting you design flexible survey paths.

This means the Info Block, despite its simplicity, can be used very versatilely and context-sensitively — for instance for individual feedback, adaptive content, or as a section introduction that depends on response behavior.

Example of an Info Block

To give you a better picture of how the Info Block is used, here's an example from a realistic survey introduction. The text demonstrates typical formatting such as paragraphs, bold, colored highlights, links and the embedding of images. Info Blocks are ideal for introducing a survey, conveying important notes, or explaining complex content — without respondents having to actively respond to it.

The example below shows how flexibly such content can be designed with QUESTIONSTAR:
