When Questback is a good fit

Questback has been active in feedback management since 2000 and specializes in employee and customer surveys. In several situations, Questback may be the better choice:

  • If you want a ready-made solution for employee or customer feedback. Questback offers dedicated packages for employee and customer surveys (EX and CX) with templates and topics such as eNPS, pulse surveys and opt-out management.
  • If you want personal support and consulting. A dedicated Customer Success Manager is included in every plan; depending on the contract, the InsightLab provides support with consulting hours, analyses or project management.
  • If you want to engage in dialogue with respondents. The follow-up module makes it possible to ask individual respondents follow-up questions and handle cases directly in the platform.
  • If invitations should go out by SMS. Questback distributes surveys by email, SMS, link, token or QR code.
  • If you generate many sub-reports automatically. Batch Reporting creates sub-reports from a master report, for example per department or location.
  • If your procurement requires ISO 27001 certification of the provider itself. Questback is ISO 27001 certified.

Use QUESTIONSTAR when...

On unlimited responses, phone support, crosstabs and PowerPoint export, both are on par. The difference lies in getting started and in what is included in which plan.

  • ...when you want to start without a quote. QUESTIONSTAR: Free plan with all survey features, MONTHLY €59/month per active survey, annual plans from €395, all prices on the pricing page. Questback states prices on request and offers a 14-day trial.
  • ...when several people work in a team. QUESTIONSTAR PROFESSIONAL: €995/year with 10 simultaneously active surveys and unlimited users. With Questback, according to the pricing page, one user is included in each plan; additional user licenses are set by the contract, and terms are not public.
  • ...when significance tests and SPSS export are part of the standard. QUESTIONSTAR: filters, crosstabs, group comparisons, t-tests and other significance tests, SPSS export with variable labels, value labels and measurement level, included in every plan including Free. Questback offers crosstabs and filters, and with the Questback IQ add-on package also heatmaps and top/bottom analyses; significance tests and SPSS export are not publicly documented, the raw-data export to Excel is described.
  • ...when your survey should be translated automatically. QUESTIONSTAR: automatic translation into 106 languages, unlimited language versions, your own languages can be added, even in the Free plan. With Questback, translations are created manually or via an Excel export and import, according to the Academy (documentation in German).
  • ...when you connect surveys to other systems or your AI assistant. QUESTIONSTAR: REST API, webhooks and a native MCP server in all plans; you connect the AI chat of your choice. With Questback, API access is part of Enterprise according to the pricing page; an MCP server is not publicly documented.
  • ...when surveys should run entirely in your own look and feel. QUESTIONSTAR offers Whitelabel from MONTHLY, academically from CHAIR. Questback supports a logo and CI layout; the removal of all provider notices is not clearly documented publicly. Custom domains and individual adjustments are to be checked separately.

Migration: AI import via MCP

Questback can export a survey as a Word file; raw data can be downloaded as Excel. QUESTIONSTAR currently offers no dedicated Questback importer; the AI-based MCP path handles the reconstruction.

Path: AI import via MCP

  1. Export the survey to Word, or print it as PDF or provide the survey link.
  2. Hand the file or link to an AI agent (Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and others) with a QUESTIONSTAR MCP server.
  3. The AI reconstructs question texts, answer options and pages in QUESTIONSTAR; you add logic, quotas and language versions during review.

Limits of reconstruction: What gets imported is what's visible in the source material. Follow-up workflows, notifications, dynamic links (pre-filled survey links) and batch reports are not transferred automatically. Which workflows can be rebuilt with QUESTIONSTAR, the API, webhooks or external systems is something you should check separately.

The time required depends on complexity. For larger volumes, we offer a guided migration service.

For ongoing collection, a clear cut-off date works well: close running surveys at Questback, start new waves in QUESTIONSTAR. Export previous responses as Excel and, if needed, import them via the MCP path.

More on the MCP integration.

For businesses and universities

QUESTIONSTAR covers surveys from a single research group to a large corporation, with all survey features already in the Free plan.

  • Hosting: IONOS SE in Germany, ISO 27001 certified data centers, in every plan. On-premise possible in the CUSTOM plan.
  • GDPR: DPA directly downloadable, sub-processor list public.
  • SSO: for user accounts in PROFESSIONAL as an add-on, in CUSTOM included; for universities eduGAIN and national federations (InCommon, UKfed, SWITCHaai, DFN-AAI as the German example) from CHAIR on request.
  • Academic plans: STUDENT €29/month, RESEARCHER €295/year, CHAIR €895/year, CAMPUS on request.
  • Support: by email and phone for all customers, regardless of plan.

At around 30 to 50 simultaneously active surveys or individual compliance requirements, get in touch with us directly. That gets sorted out faster by phone or email than through a pricing page.

What Questback does more strongly in certain scenarios: ready-made solutions for employee and customer feedback, personal support with a Customer Success Manager and InsightLab, follow-up and case management with respondents, SMS distribution and batch reporting.

Discuss an enterprise setup

Your data stays your data

If QUESTIONSTAR ever stops convincing you, you get your data out in full: as SPSS, CSV or Excel. Anytime, without cancellation, without extra fee, without us asking why. We treat data export as a baseline, not a bargaining chip.

Who is QUESTIONSTAR a good Questback alternative for?

Icon: watercolor illustration of a pixelated silhouette, anonymity

For employee surveys

When HR sets up and analyzes employee surveys itself, with an anonymity threshold, group comparisons and significance tests: QUESTIONSTAR with all features in every plan and Whitelabel from MONTHLY. The limit: if you're looking for ready-made EX programs with consulting and follow-up dialogue, Questback offers more hand-holding.

For teams with multiple users

When several colleagues create and analyze surveys: QUESTIONSTAR PROFESSIONAL €995/year with 10 simultaneously active surveys, unlimited users and unlimited responses. The limit: if you want to distribute partial reports per department automatically, batch reporting at Questback is a separate tool.

More on other use cases

Icon: watercolor illustration of several characters converging into one block, languages

For international surveys

When surveys run in many languages and translations shouldn't be done by hand: QUESTIONSTAR translates automatically into 106 languages, in every plan. The limit: if you have translations professionally produced anyway, automatic translation offers little.

For universities and research teams

For university departments and research teams, QUESTIONSTAR offers its own academic plans: STUDENT €29/month, CHAIR €895/year, CAMPUS on request, with significance tests and SPSS export in every plan and university SSO from CHAIR on request. The limit: if the university plans employee surveys with personal consulting and InsightLab hours, Questback offers more support.

Common questions when switching from Questback

Is Questback the same as Tivian or Unipark?

No. Questback is an independent provider based in Oslo. According to Questback, Questback and Tivian share a company and product history but are clearly distinct today; the EFS business was separated in 2021 and continued under Tivian. There are separate comparisons for both: Tivian and Unipark.

What's the difference between the pricing models?

Questback awards contracts on request, with one included user per plan and additional licenses per contract. QUESTIONSTAR bills by simultaneously active surveys, with public prices, monthly or annually; from PROFESSIONAL with no cap on the number of users. Which option is a better fit for your team depends on the offer you receive from Questback.

Where is the data stored?

With both, in Germany within the EU and under GDPR. QUESTIONSTAR hosts at IONOS in Germany; Questback hosts entirely in Frankfurt, Germany. Both provide a DPA: QUESTIONSTAR directly as a download, Questback as a standard DPA in the Trust Center.

Does QUESTIONSTAR offer follow-up with respondents?

Not as a dedicated module. Notifications for new responses and further processing in other systems run via webhooks and API. If the dialogue with individual respondents is central, Questback is stronger there.

Can I still compare waves?

Yes. You export your existing results from Questback as Excel and import them into QUESTIONSTAR via the MCP path. You create comparisons between waves using filters or via your AI assistant through MCP. When doing so, check whether questions and answer codings are comparable.

Can I migrate my Questback surveys?

Yes, via the AI-based MCP path from the Word export, from a PDF or a survey link. You migrate existing responses as Excel, also via the MCP path.

Is phone support included in every plan?

Yes. Phone and email support is included on all QUESTIONSTAR plans, including Free, for all customers regardless of plan.

When does Questback remain the better choice?

When you are looking for a ready-made program for employee or customer feedback with personal support, when follow-up and case handling with respondents are part of the process, when invitations go out by SMS, or when you generate many partial reports automatically.
