Survio alternative: export free from the start

When Survio is a good fit

Survio has been a widely used survey builder, Czech-based (Brno), since 2012. In several situations, Survio may be the better choice:

If you run many small surveys for free. The Free plan allows an unlimited number of surveys with up to 100 responses per month.
If a low monthly price is the deciding factor. Mini costs €13 per month with annual billing according to the pricing page. Prices do not include VAT, which is determined based on the user's billing country.
If surveys run on-site on a single device. A kiosk mode is part of the offering.
If your procurement requires the provider to hold an ISO 27001 certification. Survio is certified as a company under ISO 27001:2022; with QUESTIONSTAR, the data centers are certified.

Use QUESTIONSTAR if...

Survio has a lower entry price and offers more responses in the free plan. The difference lies in which features are included in which plan.

...if you want to download results in the free plan already. QUESTIONSTAR: export as SPSS, CSV and Excel as well as analysis reports, even in the Free plan. With Survio, according to the help center, no export is possible in the free plan, neither raw data nor reports; export begins with Mini.
...if reports should be further edited in Word and PowerPoint. QUESTIONSTAR creates analysis reports as editable Word, PowerPoint and Excel files, in every plan. Survio offers DOCX and PPTX reports from Standard; whether the charts in them are editable is not publicly documented.
...if you don't want to plan around response quotas. QUESTIONSTAR: unlimited responses in paid plans. Survio caps responses per month by plan (Mini 1,000, Standard 5,000, PRO Business 18,000 total). The number of simultaneously active surveys is capped by plan with QUESTIONSTAR.
...if your survey should be translated automatically. QUESTIONSTAR: automatic translation into 106 languages, unlimited language versions, even in the Free plan. Survio offers multilingual surveys with AI translation into as many language versions as you need according to the help center in the PRO Business plan.
...if several people work on your team. QUESTIONSTAR PROFESSIONAL: €995/year with 10 simultaneously active surveys and unlimited users. With Survio, Free, Mini and Standard are single-user plans; PRO Business includes three users.
...if you want to connect surveys to other systems or your AI assistant. QUESTIONSTAR: REST API, webhooks, native MCP server, Zapier and n8n in all plans. With Survio, API, Zapier and MCP are included from PRO Business according to the help center; webhooks are available from Mini.
...if you want to analyze more deeply later. QUESTIONSTAR: filters, crosstabs, group comparisons, t-tests and other significance tests as well as SPSS export with labels, in every plan. Survio offers contingency tables and filters; significance tests are not publicly documented, and an SPSS export is not listed.

Switching: AI handover via MCP

Survio surveys can be printed or saved as a PDF; you export responses as Excel from Mini on. QUESTIONSTAR currently offers no dedicated Survio importer; the AI-based MCP path handles the reconstruction.

Save the survey as a PDF or provide the survey link.
Hand the file or link to an AI agent (Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and others) with a QUESTIONSTAR MCP server.
The AI reconstructs questions, answer options and pages in QUESTIONSTAR; you add logic and language versions during review.

Limits of reconstruction: What gets carried over is whatever is visible in the questionnaire. Branching, webhooks, on-site campaigns and design are not transferred automatically. Check separately which settings and workflows can be reproduced.

The time required depends on complexity. For larger inventories we offer an assisted migration service.

For ongoing data collection, a clear cutoff date helps: close running surveys at Survio, start new waves in QUESTIONSTAR. Export previous responses as Excel (at Survio from Mini on) and, if needed, bring them over via the MCP path.

For businesses and universities

QUESTIONSTAR covers surveys from a single research group to a large corporation, with all survey features already in the Free plan.

For customer surveys

When customer satisfaction is measured regularly and analyzed with group comparisons: QUESTIONSTAR with crosstabs, significance tests and editable Office reports in every plan. The limit: for a short query with a simple report, Survio is enough.

For international surveys

When surveys run in many languages: QUESTIONSTAR translates automatically into 106 languages, even in the free plan. The limit: if you have translations done professionally anyway, automatic translation offers little.

For teams with multiple users

When several colleagues create and analyze surveys: QUESTIONSTAR PROFESSIONAL €995/year with 10 simultaneously active surveys, unlimited users and unlimited responses. The limit: for a small team of up to three people with fixed response limits, Survio PRO Business is also enough.

For students

When the thesis needs significance tests and an SPSS dataset with labels: QUESTIONSTAR STUDENT for €29/month; beforehand you test all features in the Free plan with 50 responses, including SPSS export. The limit: if frequencies and charts are enough, Survio is an affordable option.

Is there a free Survio alternative?

Yes. In the QUESTIONSTAR Free plan you use one active survey with 50 responses and all survey features, including export. Survio offers unlimited surveys in the free plan with 100 responses per month, without export.

What does Survio cost compared to QUESTIONSTAR?

According to its pricing page, Survio Mini costs €13 per month with annual billing, with 1,000 responses per month; prices do not include VAT, which is determined based on the user's billing country. Mini already includes data and PDF export; multilingual surveys with AI translation as well as API and MCP follow in the PRO Business plan. QUESTIONSTAR charges by simultaneously active surveys, with all survey features in every plan and unlimited responses in paid plans. At entry level, Survio has a lower price; which model fits better depends on which features you need.

Can I export in the free Survio plan?

No. According to the Survio help, no export is possible in the free plan; raw data and reports are available from Mini on. With QUESTIONSTAR you export as SPSS, CSV, Excel and Office report already in the Free plan.

Can I bring over my Survio surveys?

Yes, via the AI-based MCP path from a PDF or survey link. You bring over previous responses as Excel (at Survio from Mini on) via the MCP path as well.

Where is the data stored?

QUESTIONSTAR hosts with IONOS in Germany (EU), in ISO 27001 certified data centers. According to its IT security page, Survio stores in the Microsoft Azure cloud and partly on servers in the Czech Republic (EU); Survio does not name the Azure region. You can download the QUESTIONSTAR DPA directly.

Is phone support included in every plan?

Yes, phone and email support on all plans, including Free.

When does Survio remain the better choice?

When a low monthly price is decisive, when you run many small surveys for free, or when surveys run on site in kiosk mode.
